Family Reunion: The Original Country In-Laws!
With the 2011 release of “Blue Collar King,” Family Reunion became the first of a new breed of country band. While many bands have members from different
parts of the US, the members of Family Reunion still live in different parts of the US. With band members from Virginia to Tennessee to Texas to California, Family Reunion has decided to harness the power of the internet to create a truly country-wide country band.
The six professional musicians and songwriters in Family Reunion have over 50 years of experience in the music industry. But tiring of playing On the Road Again
on the road for so long, they had individually decided to settle down with more stable gigs including session work and sound production for film. Then a chance
discussion at an actual family reunion united the six individual musicians into a single, country-wide band.
Using stage names to protect their anonymity (and their day jobs) these six cousins have figured out a way to bring their music to the masses. As Cousin JD explains,
“When you love playing and creating music with your band, but your band members have different schedules (and time zones) the internet offers the perfect
solution. With file sharing and music editing software we can do things now that would not have been possible even five years ago.”
Their online efforts are now bearing fruit with the January 2012 release of their debut album, Family Album. Drawing on the modern attitude of Toby Keith and
Carrie Underwood on songs like “Blue Collar King” and “A Hard Man (Is Good to Find),” but staying true to the storytelling tradition of Johnny Cash and
Emmylou Harris on songs like “Dulcita” and “Delores,” Family Album manages to capture snapshots of both Country Music’s glorious past and its promising future. And the future does look promising, as Family Album has already received three 2012 ICMA Award nominations!
